According to legends I believe that Alpha may have started in January/Feb of 1998. I began playing that summer. So yeah people like Demmy Ive known for over 15 years.

Anywho, I found this place three years ago in another fit of nostalgia. Then, after turning 30 this year I was considering all the wasted hours I had spent in high school on the Monarchy boards and in guild war chats (literally half a life time ago at this point in my case), and I remembered that these boards existed.

So I poked my head back in.

Active games on evernight.net (.com being secondary) can be traced on Wayback as far as December 1998, unfortunatley there is a robots.txt that has disallow set for everything so all we can really see on wayback is an old homepage (on .net) which carries news about stability improvements, and links to pvp tournament and trivia stuff.

The evernight.com domain can be traced back on wayback as far as 24th December 1997, however, the 1997 URL redirected to /old.html and Wayback don't have that page cached so it's impossible to get the status of what was happening on the site back then.

However Neurosis' Memory Post says that work began on December 26th 1997 and that they'd moved host 3 times already by Feb 1998 due to load issues. So that would suggest that the 24th December wayback cache would have been unrelated.

That Braggart's Hall start date you found is also interesting, combining the two suggest that the first pre-alpha must have occured at some point between 26th December 1997 and Feb 8th 1998.
