I played the xbox version through--killed the Ender Dragon. The potion making isn't one of my strong suits on xbox. I was spending some time getting the settings right last night. I would be a PC noob, but not totally clueless.

My whole family does the Minecraft thing. I bought it a year or so ago and showed it to my kid, who thinks its the best thing since Adventure Time on Cartoon Network. We started playing Tekkit and pretty much beat the game (lol). A couple other friends got interested in it, got there kids into it and I've been running a little private 8 person server for the past few months. We just switched over to FTB Unleashed, everyone seems to be having a blast. The problem I have is I'm running it on an old ass computer and even though I have 6 GB of ram in the box, its only a dual core chip and it struggles when the 8 or so of us get on at the same time. I've had to limit world anchors and I've been known to purge a few cows from farms to reduce the lag. I keep toying with the idea of putting better equipment into the machine, but for the 8 of us who are using it seems manages fine with the occasional server crash. Not to shabby for a old computer running off my home internet, lol.

I haven't looked at DW20 or the other packs yet, I think my son has played them in single player a few times. He's only 7, so he's limited on what he can do but put him in creative mode and he'll build some pretty cool things.

Never tried the tekkit packs because there are so many FTB's packs, and as far as running a server, yeah my friends and I used one of my old AMD Quad-core machines to build a server but the crappy thing is, even though we live in KC area, we don't have the googles yet so our internet service sucks major balls. It doesn't take a powerful machine to run a good server, but a good internet connection would be ideal.

As far as DW20 goes, it is in my opinion one of the largest packs(most stuff), without gregtech added to it. Which is awesome cause with ic2 getting nerfed to all hell, adding gregtech ontop of it means ic2 is a late game thing not a midgame thing. There is so much stuff in DW20 packs that the author does a youtube channel going through from the basics up with each pack and his last pack he did about 100 episodes before he closed it down, in each episode is either a semi major build or part of one, he doesn't do mining(unless he it is the build to setup a minning thing) and he does alot of the crafting off camera so you see more of the build and functioning behind the build, and he still doesn't go overboard on every aspect of the pack some of them he just barely touches.

if your kido is into making things work or trying to make things automated, have him check it out, just direwolf20 on youtube. new videos everyday.

welcome to the PC world of MC. the xbox version is kind of weird had a friend who had a copy. search for Feed-the-beast for FTB stuff instructions are pretty simple. You can play vanilla and ftb stuff at the same time... well not SAME time but close vanilla load FTB, close FTB open vanilla.... there is ALOT in the ftb packs, some of them are smaller but they still add a ton to the game. Its almost like a new game.

I updated my java and it worked right before I went on vacation. I'm done with my cruise part but still wont be back home till after the first of the year. The internet here at my parents in Orlando, blows, so not sure if I'll try MC or not, might just play off the laptop, or try to get some more Vitamin D. lol

I was doing some research into places that do hosting and this seems to be a pretty good one. For the two of us it doesn't make sense but if we get enough interest from others maybe we can crowd fund a server to play on.

Thats interesting that they are getting into the server hosting, doesn't surprise me since there are a dozen+ companies dedicated to just this. Other companies support AT luauncher, bukkit, FTB, and have differnet packages for different cost, so if mojang just sticks with vanilla the other companies will still have a market.
