What happened to messages when your scouts get caught?

This age my vampire kingdom has 'seen' 3 different kingdoms when they were scouting me.

None of them sent any kind of message apologising for getting caught, joking, cursing their ineffective thieves etc.

This used to be standard practise, and yet none of the three scummers I've caught have bothered to acknowledge that they were seen where they should not have been.

What's happened?

Well, I never really understood the practice outside of comic relief. No point in apologizing really, since the purpose is obviously for updating the DB and both parties should know that.

As I see it there are two purposes to scouting. One is updating the DB for general intel to prepare for a future war, the other is updating the DB in preparation for imminent war.

Whether or not it makes any sense to do so, I personally see a lack of communication as closer to the second option than the first. Plus I think it's polite to at least acknowledge the fact you were seen.

Don't forget scouting to check if someone is massing resources, or offensive troops to potentially war against you.

But yeah, I consider a seen scout without a good message of explanation as a act of aggression. Which it really is.

I concur, plus a message is part of the fun. I usually message people who don't send anything with fun messages, just to see if it provokes any response.

I randomly will send messages to people, but sometimes I am in too much of a hurry to bother with it

Well, "in preparation for imminent war" sounds like a war you are certainly about to have while defensive scouting as I described is just keeping tabs to see if they are likely to attack you when you have no plans of attacking them otherwise so unless they are set to hit you there is no war imminent nor are there plans on the scouting party's side for a future war unless, again, under threat. It is the purely defensive scouting reason.

Or, you could be so far up in the scrolls, you are happily fascinated with the idea of anyone imagining they could ever dream of touching you in all out war and could not care less if you are caught. ... And then, after seeing how juicy they are, and ripe for picking, you could just decide to declare on them for fun and reap a harvest to fatten up on.

I tend to usually do it, i've had a few scribe convo's this age from it. But really, does anyone actually believe anything anyone actually says. "Sorry for getting caught scouting, we're about to war you!"

This probably all started when some diva in a dominant faith decided to war due to a seen scout

If you are planning to war, you don't need to scribe them. Just know that if you don't and the majority of their guild is scouted they should probably retaliate immediately
