Just give me one reason
For the past decade or so, I have done a lot of traveling. So much that I've driven in/visited 44 of the our 50 states. I only have 4 left in the continental US (Hawaii and Alaska will have to wait until I have a conference or something there). My only rule is that there must be a purpose to traveling to the state - not just go to the state to tick it off my list. I plan to visit Maine to enjoy a lobster dinner, and Vermont has a wonderful fall show and some friends I can visit. But Alabama and Mississippi are hard. I don't know much about either state, and I have no friends there that I could visit. So does anyone here have any suggestions that would give me a really cool reason to visit either state?
Re: Just give me one reason
Things to do in Alabama.
Things to do in Mississippi.
Some other Ideas are haunted house sight seeing, river boat rides, country music.

I would say you would enjoy Huntsville Alabama
Space stuff in abundance
You could possibly travel to the Blackwater river looking for your spider
It begins in Alabama
Mississippi you could always cross the border at Memphis and see Zann and his family
Visit Graceland while you are there
There are many many national and state parks in both states

I've been to Memphis a couple of times - once was just last month on my way to Windsor, Ontario.
I should just visit it you in Western Florida - then I could tick both of them off and see a friend to boot

I know Jilu used to live near Biloxi, Mississippi. They have a few casinos and the Beau Rivage had a pretty awesome buffet when I was stationed there. There's an Air Force base near there that had a decent museum if you're interested in planes at all.

Actually I would love to go on a spider hunt with you

I had to look at a map to even know where they were. I have no desire to go. But I want to go to oregon in the spring to snap photos of Multnomah Falls for a series of paintings.

You ~are~ stalking me slowly - I moved to Texas from Oregon. But I want to go to oregon in the spring to snap photos of Multnomah Falls for a series of paintings.
Oregon is beautiful in the summer, and it doesn't rain much either (most of the rain occurs in late fall/winter/spring). I also highly recommend the coastline, I did a day trip there from Monmouth and had a great time.

"P"BJ you dork, peanut butter and jelly.
Ands yes, you drive on the wrong side. Cars were invented in America and we get to say which side we drive on.
(And do NOT come in here and try to color in MY coloring book with facts. Yes i know about Cugnot's steam wagon and the entire bloody history of mechanized human transport, but I am wearing my rose colored glasses today so THERE!!!

It's pretty vague about the actual inventor of the car, but from all people who can claim to to be "the inventor", no one is American. Germans, Frenchies or even a Belgian are the possible inventors.

Re: Just give me one reason
Basically, it's just the British and their colonies that drive on the left. And there's an explanation for that.
In the past, almost everybody travelled on the left side of the road because that was the most sensible option for feudal, violent societies. Since most people are right-handed, swordsmen preferred to keep to the left in order to have their right arm nearer to an opponent and their scabbard further from him. Moreover, it reduced the chance of the scabbard (worn on the left) hitting other people.
Furthermore, a right-handed person finds it easier to mount a horse from the left side of the horse, and it would be very difficult to do otherwise if wearing a sword (which would be worn on the left). It is safer to mount and dismount towards the side of the road, rather than in the middle of traffic, so if one mounts on the left, then the horse should be ridden on the left side of the road.
So if we can convince the Brits to switch to cars instead of mounts and swords, they might be persuaded to join the right side.

That is disgusting. Plain and simple. Disgusting.
What he said. I'd go for Karl Benz. And as Rudolf Diesel invented the diesel engine, the Germans can claim a 100% victory on this one. Besides, American "cars" still don't qualify as cars.MoP wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AutomobileLady Maven wrote:Cars were invented in America and we get to say which side we drive on
