Never heard of this before, now SyFy is running a marathon building up to season 2.

Its the screen rendition of Goodkind's MOST EXCELLENT Sword of Truth series.

anyone watching or seen it? Not great, but the underlying story is so good it works.

I've only read the first book of the series, and quite enjoyed it. Not sure why I haven't read the rest. Anywhooo, I watched the first couple of episodes and it just didn't ring for me. While indeed pretty hot, the gal that plays the confessor is just nowhere near as hot as I pictured her. The guy they have playing Zed, well he also is nothing like I pictured him, almost comically so. The story didn't seem to follow the story line of the book as closely as I would have liked. There was enough in the first book for at least three seasons of shows if they followed it closer.

I don't know, I guess the feel of the show makes me expect Kevin Sorbo or Lucy Lawless to pop in at any time, and we've been there done that already.

I LOVED the Sword of Truth novels. Although, I'll admit - they seemed to get worse and worse as the series progressed. Along with the book size. The first few were like an inch and a half thick, the final few were half as thick!

And it REALLY bothered me that Gar never showed up in the final few.

I've seen ads for it on SyFy and whatnot. I love shows like that, but it doesn't appeal to me. Well, it does seem like there is a lot of nudity with hot chicks, and dudes with abs, but I guess before I can write it off completely I'll have to watch an episode.

I didn't read the books, but it seems those that have read the books and then watch the series end up being disappointed by the TV show. I personally watched it for what it was, and enjoyed many of the concepts within the storyline. As what is typical, the book is more than likely better. But since I didn't read the books yet, I wasn't disappointed. It just was what it was.

I did NOT like the ending for the first series. Some of the endings just seemed so forced. If it were made more like a mini-series production it would have been better, like they did with Battlestar Gallactica or Lost, one ongoing plot. Not everyone has ADD. I am able to remember what happened the week before just fine, thank you very much.

My one friend that had read the book and then watched the show thought the show was an abomination.

I've just finished watching the first season of this, after seeing this thread.

Wasn't bad really, quite look forward to season 2 =D I've not read the books so can't comment on that part.

A couple of the episodes were a bit weird ( the one half way thru the season that was mainly made of previous seen footage springs to mind )...and the the last episode of season 1 seemed a little rushed. Can't see why that couldn't have been spread over several episodes next season.

the director/costume type people certainly did want to make sure at every opportunity a pair of breasts was trying to fight their way out of womens clothing lol

Liked the books; like the TV series.

I think it's a good adaptation in that they've kept pretty true to the characters/lore, which were written by a real author and are thus better than what most TV writers can come up with anyway. Then they just come up with their own week-to-week plots that mostly stand alone while fitting in with an overall story arc that's vaguely similar to the one in the books.

I also thought they nailed the casting for Kahlan and Zedd. I always pictured Richard as being taller/more muscular though.
