Hosting recommendations?

Hosting recommendations?
Looking for an inexpensive web host for Ruben's massage business. We're starting off with a simple one or two page site, maybe an email link, but nothing fancy. I'm thinking about 1&1 for the price ($4mo for the basic) but don't know how good they or anyone else are.
Recommendations?
Recommendations?
And I never even got my own damn posting title!
Re: Hosting recommendations?
people still charge for such basic hosting stuff? Its been years...maybe even a decade since i've looked for such things
If i wasn't currently hosting more than i wanted, i'd offer to host it for you. But alas ....my server is already creaking. Best of luck ( sorry this was no help )

Re: Hosting recommendations?
The first webhost I ever signed up with is still great.
Have kept the old TEN Guild / original UB server up since 2001 with the same host, and they have easily exceeded 99.9% uptime.
Their current shared package comes in at £3.95 a month. I still pay about £17 a year so even if prices go up in the future, your price wont change much.

They have implimented additional FTP security though, so you'd need to enable FTP from the cpanel first, before you can upload each time. It's a recent thing so I'm not sure if it can be turned off or not, but it's simple to do from their cpanel.
If you want 'dedicated' but cheap, I've been happy with my VPS from Slicehost (from $19.99 pm) and with my VPS from Tagadab (from £9.99 pm)

Not sure how good they are, but the following companies all provide a free hosting package, that includes PHP and MySQL

I have a spare server to share and could host it for free if you want. Haven't really done it before, but I'm sure with some help it won't be too hard.
Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs and the Universe trying to build bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.

Re: Hosting recommendations?
1&1 isn't too bad, I signed up for a free hosting thing with them when they first came out and I think its still active. No idea what the credentials are though.
Godaddy is another solid one I've used, with big name recognitition. But For what you want, 1&1 would be fine.

Re: Hosting recommendations?
Seen a few of these threads in the past, and was trying to think back if anyone actually posted after to say which host they'd gone with.
Out of curiosity, who did you go with?

Owly, owly, it's simple psychology.
If we ask him enough questions, while he's lurking on here, he'll feel compelled to answer. So, what we all need to do is start threads asking Gerien questions until he can't help but answer!
