TeamSpeak ( and howto )

I've setup teamspeak on my server ( ts.monarchygame.com ). I'm not sure how much use it will get here but we can but try. It certainly didn't take long to setup so is no real big issue either way. It is possible to connect ts & phpBB together so TS uses phpBB's authentication but lets see how we go with this test first.

Of note, you can always change your nickname before logging in. So mimicry is possible, but ALL logins are logged so i'd advise against it. I know SA's can view a connected user to see their actual login ( not password )..can't remember if CA(channel admin) or regular users can or not.

Anyway utilizing the true power of the interwebs, i've googled a howto and bastardized it for us...

What is Teamspeak?

Basically its a chatroom powered by voice rather than text. You can chat to people in the same channel as you by pressing your push to talk button. You will obviously need a microphone for this to work.

How to Start

-> Download TeamSpeak[/b] ( http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads - they have Win, Linux & Mac clients )

-> Install TeamSpeak, ( If you dont know how to install a program then i just really cant help you.)

-> Start TeamSpeak From the icon on your desktop. ( Teamspeak takes up a fairly small amount of desktop space so you should be able to view it, and these instructions at the same time.)

Setting up your Push to Talk button.

-> Goto "Settings"

-> Goto "Sound Input/Output Settings"

-> Select "Push to talk"

-> Select "Set", then push the button you want to press(&hold) when you want to speak. I typically use the APPS button or CTRL.

-> Select "Close"

Adding the Monarchygame TS server

-> Goto "Connection"

-> Goto "Connect"

-> Right-Click in the white space under Servers

-> Goto "Add Server"

-> Type a name in that you will remember (I Typed "Monarchy")

-> Fill in the "Server's Address" (ts.monarchygame.com)

-> Fill in your nick name (My nickname is Gili, so thats what i filled in)

-> Click "Anonymous".

-> Fill in Server Password: letmein123 ( Let me in 123 ...no spaces )

-> Click Connect


Congrats your on our TeamSpeak Server.

I've not fucked with any of the codecs yet so there may be some experimentation to find a codec that provides quality audio but without causing bandwidth issues.

Vent is a superior product ( well mumble/murmur is - but i cannae be arsed with dealing with issues that might bring ), but with Ventrilo you have to pay for a server license if you want more than 8 people on at any one time. TS on the other hand, is free ( as long as your not charging for anything at all related to it...pretty much ). Also TS has better security and can therefore tied into forum accounts as well

80.68.95.54 - is my servers IP. I guess ts.monarchygame.com and maybe irc.monarchygame.com would be handy. Once that is setup i'll update my configs so they refer to themselves by name also.

i was messing around with ts last night, does it have a "chat" feature? where you can just type instead of talk.

You can send txt messages to ppl, channels and all. But that isn't really the point. But yeah you can.
