The horse and rider that came down the road were both starting to show their age. If you knew what to look for though you would see an air of confidence about them. You could see the horse was battle trained and the rider although in old mismatched armor rode as if he was a knight in a kings army. He wore a scabbard with an ancient looking sword. There was a ruby in the top of the hilt that although old sparkled as if by magic
They slowed as they reached the building sitting at the crossroads. The rider looked around with a sad yet hopeful look and directed the horse towards the building. Stopping the rider dismounted, the horse looked at him like it was confused. Patting the horse "I know its still early but I have a feeling." He stood looking at the inn for a few minuets before heading to the door.
It was easy to see no one had been here for some time but as he expected the door wasn't locked. "Wouldn't want to lock out a traveler in need now would we" he laughed. He stopped and stood in the doorway as memories overtook him. It had been years but he could remember the sounds of the packed room as if he just stepped out for a moment. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly he stepped inside and hung his sword on a peg by the door
He headed to the back knowing there would be a keg or two. After bringing a keg upfront and wiping out a dusty mug he took a sip of the ale. He closed his eyes and smiled. Nothing could match the flavor of the ale of the Crossroads Inn. He set the mug down and grabbed the broom with a shrug "Can't leave the place looking like this"
Its been years but found my way back. I thought about returning many times. Was never really sure why I stayed away so long. I think it was because the game was a big part of my life at times and I knew that coming home again would feel like something ended. I found the game middle to late 1999. Was messing around on a computer in between classes in collage. Will always consider myself the oldest noob. I remember I played Monarchy a few months before I found the messages boards. I'm shy do didn't talk to much and mainly stuck to solo.
At Evernight I started to feel comfortable and started to come out of my shell. After playing on and off for a few years I tried Guilds. What an adventure that turned into. Started in Phoenix its final age and then got invited into WTFPWND because I was active. We turned into one of if not the most active guild. I remember sitting in war chats for 4-6 hours at a time. I met some amazing people and after WTFPWND I bounced around a bit and even found the courage to start my own guild. I got talked into joining WeeC in I think it was called Speed. Lol between the two guilds and playing solo I was either working or playing the game. At work I was thinking about the game.
As it always seemed to life pulled me away from the game. I came back and found this place and had fun while I was here. I have never found a game that was so simple yet so complicated all at the same time. This truly was a one of a kind game. I came back to poke my head in and say hi and I think I just made my longest post ever lol. Don't know if this will get seen but I miss this game a lot and hope everyone is doing well. *raises a mug* To battles well fought
