The more things change ...
You know, I am pretty versed in the ways to be an idiot over women. I mean, I can find the fucked up ones from a mile away. I am like the super moron when it comes to women. It is fine, there has got to be a dick in the jar for someone out there. I will get mine soon enough, I am sure of it. That isn't what this is about ... it is about being a friend.
I gave up on this chick awhile ago. We hammered out a pretty awesome friendship that, if I am honest, is an awesome consolation prize. Well, seeing as her fiance has barred her from hanging with me or having digital media that can contact me (he is a real winner), it is hard for us to be anywhere but work.
Tonight was the holiday party. It was pretty horrific. Now we hate most of these people. They are vengeful, evil, pricks. Well, my good friend said that this would be a perfect place to hang out, have a nice dinner, talk and shit right before my birthday weekend. Last year she was at my place doing stuff, since that shit is dead and can't happen, this is a pretty good thing.
I believe she said two words to me all night, proceeded to get drunk, and was kind of a douche. Not to everyone. Just to me. They have a photobooth, I say, "Want to do that? Memories of a kick ass night."
She says, "Nah."
Then proceeds to get a few girls together to go do that. I take it in stride. It was the third time I asked if she wanted another drink, open bar so just being polite, and the third time she said, "No." Then waited for me to get back from the bar (eyes locked on me the entire time) and got herself one.
I get it. We aren't supposed to be together, but I was asking everyone if they wanted something. Not just her.
So I say fuck it. It is hard enough knowing that this chick I love is going to marry a man she admittedly hates in about 4 months. But to be fucking ignored at a function I DIDNT WANT TO GO TO on a night that was meant to be kind of a poor-folks-secret dinner for my birthday is ABSURD!
So I put my jacket on while she was in the photobooth with her future sister-in-law and I walked out. I texted her saying, "Enjoy your night. You looked beautiful. Please be safe."
She then tells me she was "mingling". Then tries to start an argument. I just tell her I am going home and going to sleep. Which I did.
Honestly, folks, I am kind of hurt here. Actually, really hurt. She gave me the best birthday I have ever had in my adult life last year. I mean she dropped $200.00 on me and came and watched Ted at my house. Things were looking UP! Trust me on that, details are unimportant. But then she goes and pulls her drunk-stunt.
I told her off and said that all I wanted was a night with one of my close friends I cannot hang with anywhere else. I said it was shitty it went down this way, but fuck it, it is what it is. I told her goodnight and that was it.
My real party is tomorrow, with real friends. People coming from far and wide to see me. My family thing is Sunday.
So, what do you think Monday at work will look like?

First rule of office...keep all relationships strictly professional. Because any relationship platonic or intimate has bumpy roads, and all this will accomplish is a rocky working atmosphere. Its tuff, because often times the people we work with can seem so cool. There are 4 billion other women in the world...I can almost assure you, outside of work, there is one out there that IS pretty cool and would love to be your friend or otherwise. And most importantly when if she decides to do her own thing in the future, you have no loose strings to clean up on Monday at work. In fact, you can go to work and vent with the co-workers about the experience.
Just my thoughts...
Btw, met my wife when I was stationed in the quad cities which I believe is close to where you live, maybe you have moved since then. But we never worked together when we met...
Free advice dump it if it doesn't seem logical...

Nymph, it is completely logical. I work in and around Palatine/Buffalo Grove. So I haven't moved far.
The thing is, after thinking about it, I got a lot of shit going on right now. I hate the people I work with (except for a few) and my job is extremely stressful. More so than any I have had before. I was mentally exhausted. Also, last year, my coworker and I had our first amazing kiss. It is all kind of bad memories, probably brought on by stress and her want to never acknowledge those times.
She isn't entirely blameless, but what happened has now happened. I would apologize to her, but we only can communicate via Pinterest memes. I sent a text, apologizing for my behavior last night and wishing her a peaceful weekend.
Listen, we are really good together 90% of the time. The other 10% are dramatic. She is Puerto Rican/Italian ... I am Italian/German, it is like a bomb waiting to go off. At this point, she and I both agree our lives would be shitty without the other one in it. Last night I think I was expecting it to be "my night" and instead it was what it was SUPPOSED to be. A get together of work friends.
I can't blame this chick for my failings. I got into a mood and left. I saved face with the office by claiming I was exhausted and hate work. But for now, I am just hoping for a good birthday night tonight. I plan to get blitzed. I got two other REAL womanly prospects coming tonight.
It would be the best birthday surprise though if she were to show up and hang for a little bit. Doubtful, but anything can happen.
In the meantime, I am going to handle this how I always handle it. Journal entries that I can some day look back on and shake my head at. LOL

My only advice is since you have better friends and live prospects , sometimes one less dramatic friend can't hurt.

I would normally agree. The problem is, I honestly share a brain with this woman. She is different than I, but our tastes, our humor, our well hidden awkwardness with humanity is all the same. I am sure there are others out there with different or similar interests, but when I used to make a list of things I want in a woman, this was all of them.
Also, did I mention she is absurdly attractive? Yeah.
So at the end of the day, it is just one of those things. I am happy to have someone who gets me in my life one way or another.
We will see how it all goes, she is important to me on a scale I am not prepared to go into right now. All I will say is that unlike other drama queens, she has kept it civil after the hot/heavy stuff ended. I am sure we can maintain a friendship. I just can't believe someone like her shows up in my life JUST to be a friend. Not when she can't be in close proximity to me for prolonged periods of time because it makes her want to jump me. Her words, many times, usually loudly over the past few months.
It just seems like one of us isn't being truthful. Oh well. It is probably me. I tend to latch on and can't let go to the thought of how awesome things would be. My fault really. I am working on it.

Re: The more things change ...
Well after another mental breakdown from my dear female friend I came to a startling realization: she is a nutter.
All the stress from the pending wedding, lots of voices (not mine) saying not to do it, her belief everyone is judging her, and he future husband's concerns of her still hanging with a guy she messed around with finally snapped her three months from the wedding date.
The second realization was the hardest. I realized that her man was right. She shouldn't be my friend anymore. She has a hard time controlling it and we get too close too quickly. Like unstoppable force, we are drawn to each other. It must be unnerving.
So, after my ninth friend told me to walk away now before this ends in huge drama that I would be the cause of, I did. I ended the friendship for her sake. I have a big empty pit where she used to be. She can't even bring herself to talk to me now. I am sure she realizes this is for the best. She may not, but the sad truth is, she will be better for it all.
Life is full of decisions, I made one she wouldn't have been able to make.
I won't be the same. Life is a bit darker without her there to talk to. But, if that is the cost of seeing someone so compassionate, so caring, so sweet, and so deserving of a good life succeed, then so be it.
I told her I wouldn't have done it if there had been any other way and that if she ever found a better way I was all ears, but she won't even speak to me now.
Two years of pure bliss (well to be truthfull, more like 98% bliss). I hope my sacrifice works. I really do.
Carmen, I will miss you.

sorry man--but if she won't choose you as #1, then they're right, it's not worth the drama.

You are to be commended. Ever try E-harmony or something to change the pace of work/bar room scene?

When you are this handsome, the ladies don't even bother asking if your clean. They just want that pogo stick and a movie theater ticket.
And popcorn.
