Welcome to Monarch's Glen, the home of the Monarchy browser-based kingdon strategy game, and the Stories of Tonan play-by-post roleplay game.

If you are not really sure where to begin, I would recommend that you make yourself familiar with the RULES THREAD and then head over and introduce yourself in our INTRODUCTIONS forum.

If you're settled in (or just wanting to get on with it) click the appropriate link below.

[START HERE] Stories of Tonan

Post by Kaz » Wed Jan 23, 2013 6:05 pm

Tonan is an original Fantasy world with a medieval setting, and a back-story that spans aeons. The current back-story was put together by the community of Evernight Games in 2007. The purpose, to tie together a selection of previously disconnected story-lines that date back as far as 1997.

If you have not already familiarised yourself with the site rules and roleplay rules, your first step should be to read the RULES THREAD.

Once done, your next stop should be the `Important Roleplay & Storyline Information` thread.

You might also find it useful to visit the Gallery. In addition to artwork depicting the various races of Tonan, roleplay resources such as maps and runic scripts can be found.

You may like to save a bookmark to the Stories of Tonan forum category. This area contains a map of the whole of Tonan, plus active topic lists of all current roleplay occurring within the Tonan sub-forums.

Stories of Tonan - Active RP list

There are a selection of sub-forums making up the Stories of Tonan play-by-post roleplay game.

`Plotting the Story [OOC]` is the primary out of character forum used to plan current roleplay stories. When starting a new thread in one of the roleplay forums it is good practice to also create a thread in the OOC forum. If you have found a thread that you would like to join, your first step should be to locate and then post your intention in the appropriate OOC thread. This forum is also the home to official threads giving information about the Tonan world.

The OOC forum also has a couple of sub-forums.

`Character Info` is a new forum where you may create a thread for each of your characters. You may chose to format your character thread however you wish. The purpose is to provide a place for others to get a better idea about your characters. You could also use these threads to track the storyline of your character is it moves from thread to thread.

`Behind the Scenes` is an OOC forum dedicated to discussion of future plot ideas, world development, race development etc. Threads in this forum are all works in progress, and should not be considered as finalised information. Information will be posted in the `Plotting the Story [OOC]` forums once finalised. Posting about future events discussed in this forum, but not yet finalised would be considered as Metagaming.

Roleplay itself takes place in the other Stories of Tonan forums. Other than an initial paragraph in the first post of a thread, giving a little bit of information and linking to the OOC thread, or a section at the end of a thread linking to the next thread in a sequence. All content posted within forums with the [RP] suffix must be in character.

As it currently stands, the majority of the population of Tonan are now living in the region to the very East of the primary continent 'Tismad'. This region is broken into the following areas.

`Within the Empire [RP]`
`The Disputed Kingdoms [RP]`
`The Land of Istan [RP]`
`The Free Cities [RP]`

Each of these forums has a map containing a selection of major cities, and subforums for the major cities within the territory. These city forums are a recent addition, and we are currently working towards defining each city in more detail. If the idea of helping design these cities appeals to you, please help out in the `Temporary City Development Forum`

Of the main Stories of Tonan RP forums this `The Disputed Kingdoms [RP]` subforum is the only area where knowledge of what's happening in the Monarchy Browser-based game might be useful. This particular roleplay zone has been created primarily as a place to roleplay the ongoing wars between the three factions.

The rest of Tonan (although mostly uninhabited) can also be accessed by your roleplay characters by posting in the subforums of `Beyond the Eastern Mountains [RP]`. These include:

`The Desert of Decay [RP]`
`Return to Tismad [RP]`
`The Magical Island of Maxim [RP]`
`The Lost Island of Mo-Pri [RP]`

[START HERE] Monarchy

Post by Kaz » Wed Jan 23, 2013 6:05 pm

Monarchy is the continuation of a line of kingdom strategy games that have been online since 1997. If you remember Evernight Games (Monarchy 1997 to 1998) (Canon 2001 to 2009) or Shareplay (Monarchy 1998 to 2001) you may well have played an earlier version of this very game.

If you've just found this site for the first time, if you've returned after a long hiatus, or even if you've been here forever, the New Players Area (NPA) is the best place to ask questions or learn more about the Monarchy browser-based game.

NPA also has a couple of Sub-forums.

The first of these is Game Screens which (although currently a work in progress) aims to document each of the screens in game along with screenshots and eventually some video tutorials. This is the place to come to learn the basic fundamentals of Monarchy.

The other main NPA sub-forum is NPAC Elite, which is our repository of the most useful tips and game info threads posted by our players. Once you have a basic understanding this thread is a great place to start the process of learning the intrecacies of the game.

Each version of the Monarchy game has a variety of options which are sometimes enabled and sometimes disabled. A summary of the settings for each of our active games can be viewed here:

Current Domination Settings
Current Conquest Settings
Current Bloodbath Settings
Current Guilds Settings

When creating a kingdom in Monarchy, you can select from one of a variety of Races. Each race has a selection of positive and negative points, each being slightly different. The following links document the current strengths and weaknesses of the various races, and although there are different links for each game type, races are currently the same, regardless of the game. These pages document troop strengths, scum and sorcery modifiers and also the different names for the troops and buildings (which are different for each race)

Domination Race and Troop Information
Conquest Race and Troop Information
Bloodbath Race and Troop Information
Guilds Race and Troop Information

Each race (mostly) also has a unique difference in the form of a special option or mode that no other race has. A good summary of those differences can be found in this racial differences thread.

As much as we'd love you with us ( BaN ), probably makes sense to try AoA first. To try and even out the guild sizes. If AoA don't want you, or they smell funny or something...then feel free to head our way :)

Apologies that it's taken so long to fill out the 'Start Here' section for the browser-based game. I totally forgot that I'd left it in a to-do state and have resolved that now.

I'll use this opportunity to point out that we have a newish sub-forum in NPA called NPAC Elite which is well worth checking out.

Went to the Debates and Rants forum and got this message:

You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum.

Why? And can it be fixededededed?

A while ago, I added a group to the forum to prevent the forum being indexed.

Can you read the forum description? It has a link to the group management page on it.
